Sachi's Sunny Space

WALK ON DOWN THE HILL...

...and meet Sachi, the canine queen of the yard at 69 Cortland Avenue. While you're here, meet some of her favorite friends and partake in some activities while you get to know your neighbors and the people who make your art!

Our first iteration of Sachi's Sunny Space will feature live art demonstration by Natsumi Pamela Art and a FREE make-and-take block print designed by Naomi Takata Shepherd to celebrate our inaugura l event.

 Getting Here

BUS: We are a block from the Cortland & Mission bus stops that service the 14 and 24 lines. If you are coming from the East, the 24 stop at Prospect & Cortland is a little easier.

BIKE/WALK/SCOOTER is encouraged if you're in Bernal/Noe/Glen Park area!

DRIVE: The good news: We are just a few minutes from both the 101 and 280 freeways and street parking is free all day on most streets in the neighborhood. The bad news: parking is challenging to come by, so consider carpooling, and don't be surprised if you need to park a few blocks away. 

Good to Know

  • This event is family-friendly! We love our neighbors of all ages.
  • We won't have any food/drink on offer, so if you need to fuel up first, consider hitting up Tea Rex on Mission or Pinhole Coffee on Cortland.
  • Disclaimer: Sachi does not run on our schedule, and as such reserves the right to not be present. Sometimes she'd rather lord over us all through the windows of the house than get up close with her subjects. She will be leashed when outdoors though, so it's OK to stop by with your own furry friends.

Your host, and more importantly, Sachi's mom! Katie Furukawa Bonifacio created ORDC in late 2021 to celebrate her love of sewing, and she's been on a mission ever since to cultivate a community of makers and art enthusiasts.

This event is your exclusive opportunity to touch all of Katie's pretty Japanese fabrics and buy yardage right here in here back yard, along with other items she won't be listing online.

Natsumi Pamela Art

Natsumi Pamela Inoue has loved drawing since childhood, but it wasn't until 2023 that she finally followed that pull toward art. Since then, she's been steadily building her craft, channeling it into tender, impression-driven works that capture the emotional presence of her subjects. Through soft details and sense-driven imagination, her paintings invite viewers to feel the care she puts into each piece and connect with the emotions behind the imagery.

At this market, Natsumi will be bringing a selection of fine art prints and painting live. So come say hi, watch something come to life on the canvas, and take a little piece of that with you.

6 Degrees of Hapa / Naomi Mariko Creates

Naomi Takata Shepherd is a Bay Area based artist and creator of 6 Degrees of Hapa, a brand that's all about celebrating mixed cultures! She works in a variety of mediums including block printing, hand-drawn and digital illustration, book arts, and watercolor and from the natural world, her heritage, and tasty snacks to create pieces that have a clean, bold aesthetic. Naomi also enjoys designing and teaching art workshops that are accessible to all skill levels and currently teaches block printing at spaces in San José and Los Angeles.

For Sachi's Sunny Space, Naomi will be bringing framed and unframed original block prints, 6 Degrees of Hapa snapback hats, kawaii vinyl stickers, mini greeting cards, and more! Visit Naomi's table and try your hand at block printing - she'll have an exclusive Sachi's Sunny Space carved block that you can hand print on a postcard and take home with you!

Sarah Jean Makes is a modern quilt design company specializing in quilt patterns, handmade goods, and stocks a variety of quilt shop quality fabric and supplies.
